1Our first goal of The Return to Life Foundation is to help raise awareness of coma and traumatic brain injury through education. We will be doing this by holding educational talks and seminars through-out the US, as well as other countries, to help develop a better understanding of the reality of living with and recovering from Coma and Traumatic Brain Injury.
With the current rise in Traumatic Brain Injuries all over the world at the moment; with soldiers returning home from wars, sports injuries, car accidents, and personal injuries, we are finding that there is a growing need for the education of coma and TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) recovery for survivors, their families, friends, and the health care professionals working with them. When a traumatic brain injury occurs, everyone around the person in recovery is affected, and very few people have any idea about what having a traumatic brain injury really means, and how to be of assistance to someone during their recovery process.
The brain is one of the most intricate organs in our body, and there is still so much we have yet to learn about this extremely brilliant, and complex organ. Because of this, brain injuries are often left undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, and if they are ever correctly diagnosed, there is only so much treatment and therapy that the traditional medical field currently has to offer in assisting the recovery of a brain injury.
This is becoming a huge problem.
After any surgery, people are often sent home with one of the most severe injuries a person can have, and are left unable to explain it to anyone around them, or to receive the care, compassion, and assistance they need. The people with the brain injuries as a result of this, will often times lose their jobs, homes, families, and even friends, and may be left on their own to heal from this debilitating, life changing, and “unseen” injury.
We have found, because of this, that there is a growing need for a greater understanding and awareness of brain injury at the moment, and education and awareness is a great place to start.
2Our second and long term goal for The Return to Life Foundation, when the appropriate funding is reached, is to open and run a healing retreat center where people who are recovering from coma and brain injury can come and receive the care that they need to heal. The healing center will offer holistic and natural healing methods, (offering traditional care as needed), as well as positive support groups, classes for family and friends to learn Reiki and other hands-on healing modalities, as well as offering healthy food, a quiet healing atmosphere, and beautiful gardens for people to enjoy while they are returning to life :)
Our main goal in developing this foundation has been to create the education, awareness, support, and space to heal for others, that we (and many others who are recovering from coma and TBI) wish that there was during our own recovery.
